Interacting with Mars topography using iView3D and Chromium on the high resolution display.

Interactive Exploration of Heterogeneous Geological Datasets

IGPP Researchers use the ‘Fledermaus’ (http://www.ivs.unb.ca/products/fledermaus/) software developed by Interactive Visualization Systems (IVS http://www.ivs.unb.ca/) to create 3D interactive visualizations that combine various geo-referenced datasets such as topography, bathmetry, seismic reflections, seismic catalogs, photographs, coastlines etc. These datasets can be explored using the free viewer program ‘iView3D’ (http://www.ivs.unb.ca/products/iview3d/) also developed by IVS. IView3D can be used on the stereo Geowall 1 system and also on the tiled Geowall 2 system. On the high resolution tiled Geowall 2 systems i.e. the two IBM T221 displays, we use the Chromium software to display pixels. Chromium (http://chromium.sourceforge.net/) is a system for interactive rendering on clusters of graphics workstations.

Scene files may be downloaded for free from the SIO VizCenter library (http://siovizcenter.ucsd.edu/library/objects/index.php).
