For the sixth year in a row, the Scripps Institution of Oceanography proudly hosted the Southern California regional competition of the National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB).
Members if the Climate Research Division used the Visualization Center as part of a review meeting for the California Applications Project.
San Diego City Council Member Donna Frye visited the VizCenter for a briefing and demonstration on the HPRWEN / ROADNet project in Santa Margarita. The Council Member, a long time advocate for clean water has recently been appointed to Chair the City's open space committee. She is interested in seeing this program expanded to San Diego and Tijuana Rivers.
The Geological Data Center (GDC) entertained visitors from Solid Terrain Modeling Inc. a company specializing in large scale physical terrain models. The goal was to establish a working relationship to create exhibit and educational tools for a number of groups on campus. This included the RWBC, Birch Aquarium, the GDC and IGPP. STM brought a number of physical models that were on display. The GDC used the vizcenter to display collected digital data to be used in a future physical model of San Diego County with integrated bathymetry offshore. Grid and image issues were explored in detail with the use of the overhead projection and Fledermaus.
